Johnny Cueto and Aroldis Chapman, the Reds' best starter and reliever, respectively, will miss the series with the Pirates that begins Tuesday at PNC Park, per a Cincinnati release.
Cueto had been scheduled to pitch the opener Tuesday, but he was pushed back to Friday to get additional rest. Chapman was granted paternity leave.
In Cueto's place, right-hander Josh Smith will make his major-league debut. Mike Leake and Anthony DeSclafani will be the other starters, in that order.
