Jim Rutherford and his associate GM, Jason Botterill, have seen plenty they've liked at the Penguins' development camp, which wound through Day 3 Friday at Consol Energy Center. And most of that has had to do with skill up front.
"We've got some young, quick players, kids who can make an impact," Rutherford said. "It might not be to start the season, but it's there."
To start the 2015-16 season, he added, the top candidates are Oskar Sundqvist, Bryan Rust and Scott Wilson. No surprise on any of those fronts.
"But it's not just them."
No, it's Conor Sheary, Dominik Simon, Tyler Biggs, Daniel Sprong, all with pedigree.
