The Riverhounds' 18th year as a franchise, their fourth since finding fresh life at Highmark Stadium, came to a merciful conclusion Saturday night with the 1-0 flatliner of a loss to FC Cincinnati. And befitting the bad karma here all summer, it happened on a bad bounce, with Willie Hunt accidentally striking his arm on a spinning ball in the box that resulted in the Sean Okoli's decisive penalty.
"That's just about right for this season," Hunt told me afterward. "Unreal."
That left the Hounds' final record at 6-17-7, third-worst in the 29-team USL. And the goal differential at minus-18, the league's fourth-worst. And the average attendance at 2,670, extending a four-year annual decline since moving to Highmark.
