Steelers

Cartoon Canon: Want a victory? And AB? Here goes!

RICHMOND, Va. — Not being a cable subscriber, I had no television option for keeping track of the Steelers’ huge matchup with the Ravens last Christmas.

Luckily, thanks to many years delivering all manner of goods over various jobs, I’m a big fan of listening to games on the radio. Indeed, with the Penguins, I often choose to listen to the radio rather than watch on TV, especially in the playoffs with their national broadcasts. (No offense to Doc Emrick, but there’s just no competing with Mike Lange.)

So, I needn’t have worried: While I don’t put the Steelers’ broadcast team in quite the same league, they put on a great performance with this game, every bit as tense and harrowing as if I’d been watching it live.

On another note, I foolishly waited to do the lion’s share of work with this piece until after yesterday’s game came to an end. I love my work, but man, the very last thing I felt like digging into after that debacle was illustrating a last-second Steelers victory, one chiefly involving Antonio Brown, to boot. But as I went along, looking over some clips and Matt Sunday’s incredible photos from that game, my frustration cooled somewhat … after all, hope springs eternal, right?

Bring on them Texans.
