Former Steelers All-Pro guard Alan Faneca made the final cut for the Pro Football Hall of Fame once again. Hines Ward did not.
The NFL announced its 15 finalists on Tuesday night, with Faneca being one of five offensive linemen to make the list. Faneca also was a finalist in 2016 and 2017 but did not earn nomination.
A first-round draft pick of the Steelers in 1998, Faneca played 10 seasons in Pittsburgh and 13 overall in the NFL. He was a member of the Super Bowl XL Championship team, and was selected to nine Pro Bowls. Faneca was a six-time All-Pro selection and was named to the Steelers All-Time Team in 2007 and the NFL 2000's All-Decade Team.
He is joined on the list of 15 finalists by first-timers linebacker Ray Lewis, wide receiver Randy Moss, guard Steve Hutchinson and linebacker Brian Urlacher, and returnees in offensive tackle Tony Boselli, wide receiver Isaac Bruce, safety Brian Dawkins, tackle Joe Jacoby, running back Edgerrin James, cornerback Ty Law, safety John Lynch, center Kevin Mawae, wide receiver Terrell Owens and cornerback Everson Walls.
Law is a native of Aliquippa who played for the Patriots, Jets, Chiefs and Broncos.
Ward was a finalist in 2017 but also did not get the nomination. The Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2018 will be chosen during the annual meeting of selectors at Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis.
The Steelers have 24 former players, coaches or contributors currently in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
