Pirates pitching prospect Montana DuRapau, who split last season between Double-A and Triple-A, has been suspended for 50 games for a violation of Major League Baseball's drug policy.
According to a press release, DuRapau was suspended without pay following a second positive test for a drug of abuse. The 25-year-old right-handed reliever had a 2.04 ERA and 1.04 WHIP with 62 strikeouts, 20 walks and 15 saves in 53 innings between Altoona and Indianapolis this past season.
He had a 3.24 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 16⅔ innings with Indianapolis.
A 32nd round draft pick in 2014, DuRapau was at Pirate City for voluntary minicamp last week. He has a career 2.22 ERA and 0.93 WHIP in 235 1/3 innings during his professional career.
