The Steelers' season might have ended in the AFC Divisional Playoffs with a loss to Jacksonville, but the team's starting offense can basically have a meeting with new coordinator Randy Fichtner this weekend in Orlando.
Fullback Roosevelt Nix was named to his first Pro Bowl on Monday when New England's James Develin was forced to turn down the honor because his team advanced to the Super Bowl. That brings the number of Steelers who have been chosen to play in the NFL's all-star game to nine, including seven on offense. In addition to Nix, Ben Roethlisberger, Le'Veon Bell, Antonio Brown, David DeCastro, Alejandro Villanueva and Maurkice Pouncey have been picked to play in the Pro Bowl, which will be held Sunday.
Cameron Heyward and injured linebacker Ryan Shazier also were chosen to play, while Pittsburgh's coaching staff will work with the AFC roster. The NFC team will be coached by the staff of the New Orleans Saints.
Placekicker Chris Boswell also was selected to the AFC squad.
This is the first time Nix has been chosen to play in the Pro Bowl. A converted college nose tackle, Nix finished the season with one rushing and one receiving touchdown while also finishing second on the team with 10 special teams tackles.
