Somehow, the Penguins didn’t get a power play out of a heated second-period exchange between Kris Letang and T.J. Oshie, but if it’s any consolation, the Capitals forward will be $5,000 lighter in the pocket for it.
The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced on Saturday that Oshie has been docked the maximum amount under the collective bargaining agreement.
Both players were penalized on the play, Oshie for crosschecking and Letang for roughing:
According to Spotrac, it is the first time that Oshie has faced supplementary discipline in his 10-year career. On Saturday, Oshie gave his version of events to reporters:
“It’s hard to figure out what you’re going to get fine and suspended for, and what you’re not.” — T.J. Oshie on the $5,000 fine he was assessed for cross checking Kris Letang. pic.twitter.com/zuMtxNYAk3

Said Capitals coach Barry Trotz: “He has the right to be upset a little bit, I think”.
