Gregory Polanco was scratched from the starting lineup for Saturday night's game against the Reds with right foot discomfort and is considered day to day, the Pirates announced before first pitch. Adam Frazier took Polanco's spot in the lineup, playing right field and batting second.
The injury occurred in the Pirates' 14-3 victory the previous night, when Polanco fouled a ball off his right foot in the fourth inning. He took a few minutes to walk off the pain before remaining in the game. The 26-year-old walked in the sixth inning and hit a two-run double in the seventh for his league-leading 11th RBI of the season.
Polanco had a large bag of ice wrapped around the foot after the game, however, and the Pirates made a lineup change a little over two hours from first pitch Saturday. He has five RBIs over his last two games and is batting .280/.441/.680 with two home runs this season. Polanco had only 35 RBIs last season and didn't register his 11th RBI until May 28.
Frazier has not started since the first game of Sunday's doubleheader in Detroit, going 0 for 3 in pinch-hit appearances. He grounded out to first in Friday night's win over the Reds. The 26-year-old had 62 plate appearances in the two-hole last season, batting .278/.371/.426.
