ST. LOUIS — The Pirates will finish spring training in Texas. The release of the club's 2019 spring training schedule Wednesday revealed it will play two games against the Astros in Houston on March 25-26 before returning north for opening day in Cincinnati.
Additionally, they'll open Grapefruit League play on Feb. 23 against the Phillies in Clearwater, Fla., followed by the home opener at LECOM Park against the Marlins one day later. The Pirates will play 15 home games, including a 6:05 p.m. first pitch against the Rays on March 15, and a St. Patrick's Day matchup with the Red Sox on March 17.
The earliest pitchers and catchers can report to Pirate City is Feb. 13, and the earliest for position players is Feb. 18.
The Pirates will finish their home schedule at LECOM Park with a split-squad game against the Phillies on March 23, and their final Grapefruit League game is one day later — a road matchup with the Orioles in Sarasota. Their home schedule also includes games against the Blue Jays (Feb. 27), Yankees (March 2), Twins (March 9) and Tigers (March 19).
They'll then play the two games in Houston before opening day in Cincinnati on March 28. The full schedule can be found here.
