Cartoon Canon: Le Cobra strikes!

RICHMOND, Va. -- I watched a good bit of the game referenced in this strip on YouTube and, boy, it really drove home how aesthetically hideous baseball was in the 1970s and '80s.

Not the uniforms, of course. They were glorious, the Pirates’ mix-and-match black and gold against the Expos’ quirky, racing-striped home unis.

But the actual playing surface of Le Stade Olympique (and so many others), a huge, pale green carpet stretched thin over a slab of concrete … it’s difficult to imagine who ever thought that playing baseball in such an environment was a good idea!
