Cartoon Canon: Only the Lord saves more!

RICHMOND, Va. -- Les Binkley toiled in the minor leagues for years, finally earning a shot in the NHL when the league doubled in size with the 1967 expansion.

Already well into his 30s, Binkley’s first NHL shutout was the Penguins’ first, as well, and he went on to backstop the fledgling franchise for the first five years of their existence, before ceding the net to a young Jim Rutherford and jumping to the World Hockey Association in 1972.

In other news, I’ll be returning to my old college stomping grounds to exhibit at the Kent Comic Arts Festival at Kent State University this coming Saturday, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. I’ll have copies of my Old-Timey Hockey Tales comics for sale, as well as other books, prints, stickers and original art…much of it with a Pittsburgh sports slant. If you’re a DKPS reader in the northeast Ohio area, or if you’re up for a two-hour road trip, please consider stopping by... I would love to meet you!
