Andrew McCutchen is heading back to Pennsylvania.
The former Pirate and 2013 National League MVP agreed to a three-year deal with the Phillies, according to multiple sources. It will be McCutchen's fourth team in less than two years; he played last year for the Giants and Yankees after the Pirates traded him to San Francisco in the offseason before the 2018 season.
McCutchen's deal is pending a physical, and it is reported to be in the $50 million range. The 32-year-old reportedly was looking for a five-year deal, but he instead took the price offered on a three-year deal with a chance to join a Phillies team that improved from 66-96 in 2017 to 80-82 last season.
Though McCutchen is no longer an everyday center fielder, he still possesses a bat that makes him valuable in a corner position. He hit a combined .255/.368/.424 between his two teams last season, and the .368 on-base percentage was 20th in the majors among qualified players.
By landing in Philadelphia, McCutchen will be due for another return to PNC Park. The Phillies visit the Pirates from July 19-21.
