Cartoon Canon: Blass and Sangy forever!

RICHMOND, Va. -- Had a Steelers strip all set to be drawn this week, but I’m just not feeling the pigskin today, for reasons that should be painfully obvious.

Instead, with pitchers and catchers set to report before you know it, here’s a tribute to Steve Blass’ amazing performance in the 1971 World Series, on the heels of his recent announcement that he’ll be stepping down from his day-to-day broadcast duties with the PBC after this season.

Roberto Clemente was named series MVP, and deservedly so, hitting .414 and knocking 12 hits, including two huge homers in Games 6 and 7. But Blass made the absolute best of his opportunities, as well, allowing only 2 runs and 9 hits over two complete games, and proving the Pirates' pitchers the equal of the Orioles' supposedly superior staff:
