RICHMOND, Va. -- Amazing as Mario Lemieux was in the 1990s, I always told people that Jaromir Jagr was my favorite hockey player.
I think it was because I was young, and Jags was just a bit more show-offy, as opposed to the steady, dignified No. 66. He was just so electrifying to watch, scoring goals with such amazing panache. He was also the first pro athlete that I discovered was younger than me, by just under three months, thanks to a 1992 hockey card. Hard to believe that I once considered such a thing to be a novelty.
An interesting fact that relates to the amazing symmetry shown by Jagr and Lemieux in this game: It was the second time that Super Mario achieved the same feat in the same fashion, having reached the 50-goal plateau in the same game as Kevin Stevens in March of 1993!
