HOUSTON -- Evgeni Malkin is back on skates.
A source told DKPittsburghSports.com that Malkin was working out on the ice Saturday at the Lemieux Sports Complex, along with another injured member of the Penguins, Chad Ruhwedel, and one of the team's skills coaches. Per the source, Malkin was skating briskly with no apparent difficulty.
Mike Sullivan offered no update on Malkin's status when asked about it Saturday morning in Dallas.
The Penguins' next game is Monday night in New York against the Rangers. That's followed by three days off until a Friday home game against the Predators.
Malkin was hurt March 17 in a 5-1 loss to the Blues at home when St. Louis defenseman Robert Bortuzzo crosschecked him in the right side of the ribs. Bortuzzo wasn't penalized or assessed supplemental discipline by the NHL Department of Player Safety.
