RICHMOND, Va. -- With the exception of the 8-0 blowout vs. Minnesota in 1991, the Penguins’ Stanley Cup clinching (and even losing) contests have always been tense affairs, and Game 6 in Nashville two years ago this week was no exception.
With the game still scoreless as the clock dipped under five minutes left in regulation, it began to take on the feel of overtime, and for all intents and purposes, it was. Once Patric Hornqvist finally got a shot past Pekka Rinne, I certainly had the feeling it should be all over… but a looming, stressful 95 seconds left on the clock meant I couldn’t exhale completely. That all changed once Carl Hagelin scored an empty-netter just over a minute later.
The Penguins were champions, again…and somehow, it kinda snuck up on me!
