The Steelers made a rare move earlier this year, trading up in the draft to acquire linebacker Devin Bush with the 10th pick.
Thus far, the rookie has drawn nothing but raves from his new teammates, who have marveled at how quickly the 20-year-old has picked things up.
Thursday, Bush received an honor from the University of Michigan that showed just what kind of impact he made there. Bush was named Michigan's Male Athlete of the Year.
Bush finished his final season at Michigan with 66 tackles, 4.5 sacks and four pass breakups. The Steelers then traded their first- and second-round picks in this year's draft, and a third next year to the Broncos, to move up 10 spots, from 20 to 10, to select the true junior.
Lest you think Bush was a shoo-in to win the recognition, realize the Wolverines had a number of very good football players. And their men's basketball team went 30-7, advancing to the Sweet 16.
But it was Bush who took home the honors as the top male athlete at Michigan in the 2018-19 school year.
Bush is the 12th football player to win the award at Michigan and the first since Jabrill Peppers did so in 2017.
In three seasons at Michigan, Bush accumulated 194 tackles, 10 sacks, one interception and 17 pass breakups. He was a two-time All-Big Ten first team selection (2017-18) on the field and twice earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in the classroom.
