Trevor Williams was back in the Pirates’ clubhouse Saturday, but it remains uncertain when he will pitch again.
Williams was originally scheduled to start Saturday night against the Phillies at PNC Park. However, the Pirates scratched Williams on Friday because he was experiencing severe flu-like symptoms. He was not at the ballpark Friday, to keep his teammates from becoming infected.
While Williams was feeling better, Clint Hurdle said it was too early to tell when he would slot back into the rotation. Joe Musgrove, who was originally to pitch Sunday against the Phillies, moved up to pitch Saturday.
Williams is 3-3 with a 5.17 ERA in 13 starts this season. He was on the injured list from May 17-June 18 with a right-side strain.
Hurdle was not ready to say who would start in the four-game series with the Cardinals that begins Monday night at PNC Park, other than that Chris Archer will start Tuesday.
Elsewhere on the injury front, Keone Kela rejoined the Pirates on Saturday following a rehab assignment with Class AAA Indianapolis. He is likely to be activated from the injured list Monday.
Kela has been out with right shoulder inflammation since May 6. He pitched three times for Indianapolis, allowing two runs on two hits with six strikeout and no walks. In 14 games with the Pirates before being injured, Kela was 1-0 with a 4.63.
Kela is one of 11 Pirates on the IL along with Steven Brault, Gregory Polanco, Rookie Davis, Francisco Cervelli, Jameson Taillon, Nick Burdi, Erik Gonzalez, Edgar Santana, Chad Kuhl and Lonnie Chisenhall.
