The Penguins were a major disappointment when they were swept out of the Stanley Cup playoffs by the Islanders in four games this spring, but the people at NBC haven't lost faith in them.
In the Penguins' ability to attract an audience, at least.
The team has been a popular choice to participate in outdoor and televised games for more than a decade, and that didn't change simply because of that pratfall during the most recent postseason. The Penguins once again will be one of the major draws for telecasts on NBC and the NBC Sports Network during the 2019-20 season, with no fewer than 16 scheduled appearances.
They will appear on the main network six times and NBCSN 10 more, with six of those being exclusive to NBCSN. The other four will be presented to a national audience but also will be carried locally by AT&T SportsNet.
The NBC games in which the Penguins are scheduled to appear are:
Jan. 19 -- Boston, 12:30 p.m.
Feb. 2 -- at Washington, 12:30 p.m.
Feb. 16 -- Detroit, 12:30 p.m.
Feb. 12 -- at Washington, noon.
March 22 -- Washington, noon.
March 29 -- at Philadelphia, noon.
The Penguins' games that will be carried exclusively by NBCSN are:
Oct. 16 -- Colorado, 7 p.m.
Oct. 23 -- at Tampa Bay, 8 p.m.
Dec. 4 -- St. Louis, 8 p.m
Feb. 26 -- at Los Angeles, 10:30 p.m.
March 18 -- at New York Rangers, 7:30 p.m.
March 25 -- at Chicago, 8 p.m.
The non-exclusive NBCSN games, which likely will be of interest primarily to viewers outside the region, are as follows:
Nov. 12 -- at New York Rangers, 7:30 p.m.
Jan. 14 -- Minnesota, 7 p.m.
Jan. 21 -- at Philadelphia, 7:30 p.m.
Feb. 18 -- Toronto, 7 p.m.
