Mark Cherico is back.
An 11-2 professional mixed martial artist, Cherico climbed all the way to Las Vegas and a shot on Contender Series, a show run by UFC President Dana White aimed at signing the hottest MMA prospects in the world, in August of 2017. There, Cherico was defeated via first-round TKO, and it appeared his fighting days were over.
Now, however, "The Pride of Bloomfield" is back Nov. 16 at Printscape Arena in Canonsburg, Pa., where he'll throw down in the main event of 247 Fighting Championships: Brawl in the Burgh 2.
And he has something to prove.
"It's been a long two-and-a-half years of injuries, setbacks, false starts, depression and self-doubt," Cherico told me via text message. "I'm just glad that through it all my family has had my back and helped me get back here. I can't wait to be back under the lights in front of all my family, friends and fans."
Known as "The Pride of Bloomfield," Cherico always brings a rowdy and passionate legion of fans to his fights in Western Pennsylvania and abroad. Come Nov. 16, we can expect more of the same. Cherico's been out of the game for over two years, and now it's time for him to remind everyone exactly what he can do when the cage door closes and the referee signals the start of Round 1.
"Mark is known to be one of the most intense and dominating fighters around," 247 FC owner Ryan Middleton told me. "His work ethic in the gym and in the cage exemplifies exactly what we stand for not only as a promotion but also as a city.
"Mark Cherico is Pittsburgh."
Tickets to 247 FC: Brawl in the Burgh 2 are available now.
