So that's real life in 2019. Brown got traded by the Steelers to the Raiders, where he was richly rewarded with a renegotiated, three-year, $50.1 million deal. Nearly $30 million of that was guaranteed — if he made it to the Raiders' Week 1 game Monday night against the Broncos.
He didn't. For many, many reasons, which our Dejan Kovacevic dissected in great detail. The Raiders released him, and he hit the open market at 4 p.m. ET Saturday.
By 5 p.m. ET, the Patriots gave him a one-year deal worth up to $15 million. That, per Schefter, includes a $9 million signing bonus.
While Brown cannot play Sunday in the Patriots' opener against the Steelers per league policy, he could be in town. He could say what's up. And that alone makes for some fine, fine drama. He will be eligible for Week 2 vs. the Dolphins in Miami — Brown's hometown.
With Brown, the Patriots' top-three receivers are now: Brown, Josh Gordon and Julian Edelman.

Obviously, Brown's a wild card here. The wildest of cards, even. But if he settles down and remembers he plays football and nothing else ... Yeah, that's a ridiculous offense. The rich get richer.
