CRANBERRY, Pa. -- John Marino's first visit to the American Hockey League didn't last long.
The Penguins recalled him from their farm team in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this morning, after placing right winger Bryan Rust on Long-Term Injured Reserve.
Marino had been assigned to the Baby Penguins Tuesday afternoon, and actually traveled to Wilkes-Barre before being summoned back Wednesday, as soon as Rust officially went on LTIR.
It remains to be seen if the Penguins will make another move or two before the regular-season opener against Buffalo Thursday at 7:08 p.m. at PPG Paints Arena.
They had 11 healthy forwards at practice Tuesday. Alex Galchenyuk, who has been sidelined for the past week because of an unspecified lower-body injury, is scheduled to participate in their workout at 11 a.m., after which his status for the Sabres game should be determined.
If he's not able to play in that game, the Penguins likely will summon another forward from Wilkes-Barre.
Galchenyuk and Rust had been penciled in as Evgeni Malkin's likely linemates before Galchenyuk's injury removed him from the mix last Wednesday.
Rust suffered a hand injury when he was struck by a shot while killing a penalty late in the Penguins' preseason finale against the Sabres last Saturday.
