The Pirates and AT&T Sports Networks announced Friday a multi-year extension of the team's television rights deal.
The previous contract between the two sides expired at the end of the 2019 season.
AT&T SportsNet will broadcast at least 150 games a year, along with pregame and postgame coverage and other team-related shows, the Pirates said in a press release.
“In this rapidly evolving media landscape, the Pirates are extremely pleased to continue our long-standing partnership with AT&T SportsNet,” said Pirates team president Frank Coonelly. “It was critically important for us to continue to increase the reach and penetration of Pirates Baseball throughout our region. It was equally essential that we enhance the coverage of Pirates Baseball by now ensuring that all 162 games will be telecast either by AT&T SportsNet or one of our national television partners and that nearly all of our home Spring Training games will now be broadcast on AT&T SportsNet. Working closely with the outstanding team at AT&T SportsNet and utilizing state-of-the-art technologies, we are excited to ensure that our games are produced and distributed in the manner that our fans demand.”
The two organizations' relationship dates back to 1986 when the channel was launched as Pirates Cable Network. They have undergone several name changes since then through mergers and sales, including KBL Entertainment Network, Prime Sports KBL, Fox Sports Pittsburgh, Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh, FSN Pittsburgh and Root Sports. The AT&T SportsNet name was adopted in July 2017.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed at the time of the press release.
