The AFC North-leading Ravens just got stronger, adding All-Pro cornerback Marcus Peters on Tuesday in a trade with the Rams.
The Ravens are sending linebacker Kenny Young and a fifth-round pick in 2020 to Los Angeles in return.
Through six games in 2019, Peters has two interceptions, a touchdown, four passes defended and 14 tackles for the Rams. For him, those stats represent a down year.
Peters exploded onto the scene as a rookie with the Chiefs in 2015, registering a career-high eight interceptions, two touchdowns and 26 passes defended. That earned him second-team All-Pro status and a Pro Bowl nod. He was also named the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year.
In 2016, Peters followed up with authority, nabbing six picks and 20 passes defended, good for a first-team All-Pro nod and another trip to the Pro Bowl.
Peters hasn't quite lived up to that hot-fire start since, snatching just three interceptions in 16 games with the Rams last season, but at 26 years old, there's undoubtedly plenty left in the tank for him as he transitions to John Harbaugh's system in Baltimore.
At 4-2, the Ravens hold a two-game edge over both the Steelers and the Browns, and this move figures to only make them stronger moving forward. For the Steelers, that means a rough road to the playoffs just got rougher.
In their first matchup this season at Heinz Field, the Ravens prevailed, 26-23, in overtime behind the leg of Justin Tucker. In that game, Mason Rudolph got the start before being knocked out of the game with a concussion on a hit to the head from Ravens safety Earl Thomas.
The two teams will meet once again in Week 17, on Dec. 29, with the division title potentially on the line.
