Who will replace Clint Hurdle as Pirates manager for 2020 and beyond?
Well, we don't know. And right now, we don't know when that person will be named, either.
Because of this:
"While we will pause the managerial search process for the time being, we are appreciative of the work that has been done thus far and confident in the candidates available to us," Bob Nutting said in a statement Monday morning after the Pirates fired general manager Neal Huntington. "The hiring of a new general manager will only help clarify the situation further for those candidates.”
Nutting stated that they are not starting the search from scratch in an interview he and new team president Travis Williams had with DKPittsburghSports.com Monday afternoon.
"I think we’ve done a good job getting the manager search started," Nutting said. 'Travis has already been on the phone with many of those managers to begin to build a bridge. We have the introduction. We have the baseline. We’re going to put a short pause on this process and restart it in a few weeks when we have the GM in place."
Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro, Pirates third base coach Joey Cora, Athletics quality control coach Mark Kotsay and Dodgers first base coach George Lombard interviewed for the vacant position late last week, joining Pirates special assistant to baseball operations Jeff Banister, Athletics bench coach Ryan Christenson, Cardinals first base coach Stubby Clapp and Twins bench coach Derek Shelton in the hunt for the position.
