It's not a good week for Benny Snell.
During the team's Monday Night Football win over the Dolphins, Snell suffered a knee injury that limited his snaps and landed him on the team's injury report early in the week. Now, according to Ian Rapoport, Snell underwent surgery to trim his meniscus.
Snell might miss two to three weeks following the procedure.
It's been an unfortunate turn for an otherwise blossoming rookie season for Snell. He posted his best game of the season in the team's Week 6 win over the Chargers in Carson, Calif., tallying 75 yards on 17 carries and an additional 14 yards through the air. Following the team's bye week, Snell was slotted as James Conner's primary backup against the Dolphins as Jaylen Samuels recovered from his own knee injury.
In that game, however, Snell saw just 11 snaps, rushing for 13 yards on five carries before leaving the game in the third quarter with the injury.
After the game, reports circulated that Snell was found with marijuana in his possession during a traffic stop in Ohio dating back to Aug. 30. Snell was pulled over for going 68 mph in a 55-mph zone, and the deputy on the scene smelled marijuana upon approaching Snell's car.
After a search, the deputy found 2.74 grams of marijuana as well as an unloaded Glock 9mm. There was no magazine with the handgun, and a serial number check came back clean. Snell also passed a field sobriety test during the stop. The league could, however, decide to punish Snell per its code of conduct, although that likely wouldn't be enforced until the beginning of next season.
