Vazquez facing 21 new charges

Twenty-one additional counts were filed against Pirates pitcher Felipe Vazquez in his second preliminary hearing Tuesday in Westmoreland County.

Vazquez, who was arrested in September for sexual assault, now faces an additional 10 counts of child pornography, 10 counts of unlawful contact with a minor and a single charge of corruption with minors. All 21 counts are 3rd-degree felonies, each of which could carry up to seven years of jail time and $15,000 in fines.

According to a police affidavit, as obtained by our TV partners, WPXI, police found an iPhone XS and a MacBook Pro at Vazquez's Pittsburgh apartment which contained seven photos and three videos of an underage girl in "various stages of nudity."

Police said Vazquez requested the images and videos from the girl.

In September, Vazquez admitted to police that he attempted to have sex with the underage girl in August of 2017. She was 13 at the time. He also admitted to sending naked photos of himself to her, but denied actually having sex with her. Police also found text messages from Vazquez to the victim expressing his desire to have sex with her. Those messages were sent as recently as July 2019.

The alleged victim is now 15. The charges that lead to Vazquez's arrest in September came from Florida, where she now lives. Additional charges from Westmoreland County were announced shortly after.

Vazquez is currently on the major league restricted list, meaning he is not on the Pirates roster or collecting a salary. He is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison without bail.
