The Pirates will be able to keep some of the players they risked losing last week, at least for now.
On Wednesday the club announced pitchers Luis Escobar, Montana DuRapau and Williams Jerez had cleared waivers and been outrighted to Indianapolis.
The Pirates designated the three players for assignment on Nov. 20 to open roster spots for prospects ahead of the Rule 5 deadline.
Dario Agrazal was also DFA'd that day, and he was traded to the Tigers for cash considerations Monday.
The 40-man roster is still full since all the players were removed from the roster when they were designated for assignment.
All three pitchers spent time in the majors last season.
Escobar is currently ranked as the Pirates' 14th best prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. The 23 year old made four major league appearances in his first taste of the big leagues. He had a 4.09 ERA in 55 innings in Triple-A, mostly in relief.
DuRapau bounced between the majors and minors last season, struggling in the big leagues but excelling in Triple-A.
Jerez was a September waiver claim and made six appearances with the Pirates. He has a 5.33 career ERA over 25.1 big league innings and recorded a 3.86 ERA in Triple-A last season.
Earlier this month the Pirates also outrighted James Marvel, Alex McRae, Yefry Ramirez and Wei-Chung Wang off the roster.
All the players who have been outrighted off the roster are eligible to be selected in the Rule 5 draft, which will occur on the final day of the Winter Meetings in San Diego on Dec. 12.
