ZACH TROTMAN. -- MATT SUNDAY / DKPS

The Penguins have assigned defenseman Zach Trotman to their American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre.

The move suggests that defenseman Justin Schultz, who has been activated from injured reserve after missing the past seven games because of an unspecified lower-body injury, is likely to play when the Penguins face the Arizona Coyotes tonight at 7:08 at PPG Paints Arena.

Mike Sullivan is expected to address the status of Schultz and defenseman Jack Johnson, who sat out the Penguins' 3-0 victory against St. Louis Wednesday because of illness, when he meets with reporters around 5 p.m.

The Penguins, as has usually been the case of late, did not have a game-day skate.

Trotman, 29, has appeared in five games with the Penguins this season. He does not have a point in the NHL in 2019-20, but has two goals and three assists in eight games with Wilkes-Barre after recovering from offseason surgery to repair a sports hernia.

Schultz, who will be an unrestricted free agent after this season, has two goals and six assists in 21 games.
