This is a big-time marketing win for Bud Light ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft.
With the annual NFL event delegated to an online-only, virtual format this season due to the coronavirus outbreak, Bud Light recognized one serious problem: The crowd won't be able to boo NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Look, this is a tradition that just can't be broken, pandemic or not. Just listen to the glory:
Bud Light understands the situation, and they're making it right. Check this out:
The NFL Draft will be without an important tradition. And we just can't let that stand. Record your boos then post & tag @budlight and #BooTheCommish. We’ll deliver the boos to the Draft, and for each #BootheCommish thru April 25, we’ll donate $1 to NFL Draft-a-Thon up to $500K. pic.twitter.com/fnvcYDpZPW
Oh yes. Bud Light invites you to record your boos from the comfort of your home, tag them on Twitter @BudLight and use the hashtag #BooTheCommish. Once you do that, Bud Light will deliver the boos (gotta love a good pun, eh?) and donate $1 to NFL Draft-a-Thon up to $500,000 through April 25. The NFL Draft-a-Thon is a fundraising effort designed to raise funds for COVID-19 relief efforts.
Some fans have already taken Bud Light up on the offer:
The NFL Draft begins Thursday, April 23, with Round 1 at 8 p.m. Rounds 2 and 3 take place Friday, beginning at 7 p.m., while Round 4 through 7 finish up Saturday, beginning at noon.
That gives you plenty of time to maintain this rich tradition and send your boos directly to Goodell.
