Add Evgeni Malkin to the list of athletes and teams stepping up to help people and organizations that are struggling to meet their needs during the coronavirus pandemic.
He and his family have made an unspecified monetary donation to the Ronald McDonald House of Pittsburgh.
Per a team release, Malkin's contribution will enable that operation to provide catering and hot meals and "to fulfill its entire pantry wish list and provide games for family entertainment."
“My wife, Anna, and I wanted to do something to help families in the Pittsburgh area," Malkin said in a statement released by the Penguins. "We know it is hard for everyone right now, but we couldn’t imagine having a child hospitalized during this uncertain time. While we are comfortable in our own homes, others are relying on the generosity of others, like Ronald McDonald House, to open their doors.”
The non-perishable pantry items that will be provided to families using the Ronald McDonald House include self-serve options such as microwaveable meals, pastas, cereals, canned goods and snacks, as well as cleaning supplies and paper products."
"We are incredibly grateful for the support that Evgeni Malkin has extended to our charity,” said Eleanor Reigel, executive director of Ronald McDonald House. “His generosity ensures that we can continue to provide our families with warm meals, essential household and pantry items and a safe and supportive environment to call home during this uncertain time.”
