The Pirates became one of the first teams to announce their 2020 ticket refund policies Wednesday, offering ticket holders the option of a refund or a credit for either later this year or 2021.

This applies to all season ticket holders and those with tickets for April and May. Those who choose the credit will also receive a bonus that can go towards additional tickets.

Season ticket holders will receive a 15% bonus, and individual game ticket holders will get 10%.

"We feel strongly that we will play games this season," Travis Williams wrote in a sample letter to season ticket holders which outlined the franchise's plan. "We very much look forward to the return of Pirates Baseball, and eventually welcoming you back to PNC Park."

The club said they will process refunds as quickly as possible.

MLB teams had come under scrutiny for treating their unplayed games as postponements rather than cancellations, exempting them from offering refunds. A pair of fans filed a lawsuit against MLB last week, asking for their money back.

The COVID-19 shutdown has not only delayed the start of the season, but it has cast doubt on whether fans will be able to attend games this year. MLB is considering multiple proposals that would have teams play in empty stadiums in either their spring training facilities or just Arizona. Even if teams would be allowed to play in their home stadium, public health concerns would make mass gatherings unlikely.

The MLB regular season is slated to start in either June or July and extend into mid-October.
