Sidney Crosby -- MATT SUNDAY / DKPS

Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has donated 100,000 meals to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, which serves 11 counties in southwestern Pennsylvania.

The meals amount to about 120,000 pounds of food, per a press release issued by the team.

"I saw the people of Pittsburgh coming together to help one another and I wanted to be a part of that," Crosby said in that release. "The Food Bank and its staff have done an amazing job providing for so many people and I am proud to partner with them during this challenging time."

The food Crosby donated is scheduled to be distributed through the food banks' various programs, including 365 pantries, home-delivery service and drive-up distributions.

“Sidney is such an incredible person, both on and off the ice,” said Lisa Scales, president & CEO of the food bank. “He’s provided great joy to this region during his tenure with the Penguins, and now he is helping us provide food assistance to those who need it most during the COVID-19 crisis.”

Recently, Evgeni Malkin also made a donation to the Ronald McDonald House of Pittsburgh. Per a press release, Malkin and his family made an "unspecified monetary donation" that will enable the Ronald McDonald House to provide catering and to serve hot meals.

“My wife, Anna, and I wanted to do something to help families in the Pittsburgh area,” Malkin said in a statement released by the Penguins. “We know it is hard for everyone right now, but we couldn’t imagine having a child hospitalized during this uncertain time. While we are comfortable in our own homes, others are relying on the generosity of others, like Ronald McDonald House, to open their doors.”
