The American Hockey League (AHL) has canceled the remainder of the 2019-20 regular season and Calder Cup playoffs because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The announcement was made by AHL president Dave Andrews.
It was expected in the wake of a conference call between members of the league's Board of Governors three days ago.
“After a lengthy review process, the American Hockey League has determined that the resumption and completion of the 2019-20 season is not feasible in light of current conditions," Andrews said in a statement released by the AHL. "The league’s operational focus has turned toward actively preparing for the 2020-21 season."
The AHL’s current standings, as calculated by the percentage of points earned, are final, and will serve as the basis for determining league awards.

The Penguins' farm team in Wilkes-Barre finishes 29-26-3-5 and slipped from fifth place to sixth in the Atlantic Division standings because Springfield, who has one fewer point, played two fewer games.
