Of the 50 states that comprise our union, exactly two have come forth to declare that professional sports can resume on their soil: Arizona and, as of yesterday, Florida.
Gee, what a coincidence. The two sites of all of Major League Baseball's spring complexes.
What's clearly coming next in this sports-vs.-coronavirus carousel will be open pitches from local and state governments to attract displaced franchises or even entire leagues their way, to say nothing of Canadian cities and provinces. It could be Las Vegas' mayor bowing up a grand package to the NBA for a single-stop playoff. It could be Gary Bettman spending part of yesterday on a call with British Columbia's premier, John Horgan, who's hoping to sell the NHL on Vancouver as one of its so-called hub cities. And yeah, it could be Arizona and Florida making their cases to Rob Manfred and baseball:
Kind of gives off the impression there are opportunities aplenty, doesn't it?
Well, get it going. Whatever it is, wherever it is, every league that'd normally be playing right now is running out of reasons to not at least look decisive.
