If you watched the Steelers from 2005 to 2011, you know Bryant McFadden.
McFadden played six years in the black and gold, starting 35 games and winning two Super Bowl rings (Super Bowl XL, Super Bowl XLIII). He also appeared in a third Super Bowl, Super Bowl XLV, which the Steelers lost, 31-25, to the Packers.
Following that solid career on the gridiron, McFadden's since transitioned seamlessly into life on the other side of the microphone, working as an analyst for CBS Sports.
I recently had the opportunity to catch up with McFadden via the magic of Zoom, and we talked about that transition after football, his challenges as he moved into a media role and, of course, his time with those Super Bowl-winning Steelers.
Throughout the 23-minute chat, McFadden shares the biggest moment of his professional career (you might've forgotten it ... I did!) and goes in-depth about his excitement level stepping onto the football field for Super Bowl XL ... as a rookie.
Spoiler alert: He almost fainted. Literally.
McFadden also dishes about Troy Polamalu, shedding some insight on the man behind the hair. There are few — if any — like Polamalu, and McFadden explains why.
Finally, we wrap it up with a little comparison between those great Steelers defenses McFadden was a part of and this current Steelers defense which led the NFL in forced turnovers and sacks in 2019. While the Steelers missed the playoffs, going 8-8 last year, McFadden sees plenty of reasons to get excited about where the team will be in 2020 ... and beyond.
