The NFL has made a difficult decision heading into the 2020 season. As the world still deals with the lingering effects of the coronavirus pandemic, the league has told all 32 teams they will not be permitted to travel away from their team facilities for summer training camps.
This per ESPN's Adam Schefter:
This is crushing news for Steelers fans who make a yearly trek to Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa., to watch the team practice and prepare for the upcoming season. While the Steelers are now forced to stay at home, for other teams, like the Ravens, they never leave their home facilities for training camp anyways. In this regard, this news is meaningless to them.
There are still questions which still need to be answered, as it pertains to training camp. Will the Steelers be able to still hold an event at Heinz Field, a place where social distancing could still occur? Will teams be permitted to have any events outside of their home facilities for fans? Also, will reporters be permitted to be on-site to watch the practices and report their findings?
Still a lot to be deciphered, but it is a disappointing blow for many Steelers fans as the 2020 regular season approaches. With that said, I think most would agree having football, even with no fans, is better than no football at all.
