The Steelers were holding out some hope that they would be permitted to hold their 2020 training camp at Saint Vincent College as they had done the previous 53 years.
This was despite a report that surfaced Tuesday that the NFL would force teams to hold their camps at their own training facilities.
It appears, however, that the Steelers also will be included in that ruling.
Team president Art Rooney II issued a statement Wednesday confirming the Steelers won't be at Saint Vincent College this year.
"We are disappointed for our fans and the city of Latrobe that we will not be able to hold our annual training camp at Saint Vincent College in 2020, but we are adhering to the policies and guidelines set forth from the NFL for teams that travel from their facilities each year," Rooney said.
"We look forward to returning to training camp at Saint Vincent College in 2021."
The Steelers are scheduled to play in the Hall of Fame game Aug. 6, which means they could open training camp sometime around July 23. It's not known how the team will house players and keep them isolated at the Rooney Sports Complex.
The Steelers have trained at Saint Vincent College, about 30 miles away in Latrobe, every year since 1966. Prior to that, they trained in Rhode Island for three years.
The team's training camp at Saint Vincent College has always been one of the biggest draws around the NFL. Thousands of fans flock to the campus each day to watch practice and get autographs signed.
