John Hugley and William Jeffress generated most of the headlines, but when Noah Collier committed to Pitt in September, it kick-started the Class of 2020 for head coach Jeff Capel.
Collier, a 6-foot-8 forward from Mullica Hill, New Jersey, who played at Westtown (Pa.) School, is a key member of Capel's largest recruiting class at Pitt -- one of five incoming freshmen. Max Amadasun, a 6-10 center, and 6-5 guard Femi Odukale are the others, and they will be joined by sophomore guard Ithiel Horton, who sat out last season after transferring from Delaware.
For now, Collier is stuck at home, waiting for word on when he can arrive, but he took time Wednesday night to talk with former Pitt guard and assistant director of basketball operations Ronald Ramon as part of the team's IG (Instagram) Live Takeover. Former Pitt swingman Mike Cook also took part.
"I can't wait to get to campus with the team," Collier said. "We've been talking on group chats and texts a little bit. I feel like I'm a cool guy to be around, and I like being around them."
Collier said Xavier Johnson served as his host during his official visit and that he'd explore a rap career if he wasn't playing basketball.
But he also gave insight on what type of player Pitt can expect.
"I'm a high-energy guy. I'm super vocal, a leader who's not afraid of big games," Collier said. "I'm a great defender. Offensively, I will contribute as well."
Ramon, who said the Pitt basketball assistants are scheduled for a June 29 return to working from campus, also offered his assessment of Collier.
"He's a glue guy that you could put anywhere," he said.
