Pitt football gets assist from Riddick in promo video

It starts with a tunnel ride and explodes with a view of Downtown Pittsburgh from the Fort Pitt Bridge.

In the background, the voice of ESPN’s Louis Riddick, who played at Pitt before a seven-year NFL playing career and a lengthy tenure as a scout and director of personnel for the Redskins and Eagles, echoes, “The Steel City. The Burgh. Whatever you call it, it’s Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A football town.”

From there, the 8-minute, 29-second video posted today to Twitter by head football coach Pat Narduzzi takes prospective recruits on a virtual journey of the city.

There’s a stop on the South Side, where Pitt showcases its partnership with the Steelers at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex along with appearances from former Pitt players such as Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald and Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd. There’s a tour of Oakland and the Pitt campus, including stops at the Cathedral of Learning and Petersen Events Center. There’s also a couple clips showcasing the Penguins from PPG Paints Arena, a Pirates package from PNC Park and, finally, Heinz Field, home of the Steelers and the Panthers.

“For over 100 years, some of the greatest players in football history got their start right here in Pittsburgh,” Riddick says.
