Pitt basketball recruit Hood-Schifino on move

Jalen Hood-Schifino is on the move. Don't worry Panthers fans, it has nothing to do with his commitment to the basketball program.

Hood-Schifino, a former Penn Hills athlete, is transferring from Combine Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina, to national powerhouse Monteverde (Fla.) Academy.

A four-star prospect in the Class of 2022, the 6-foot-4 Hood-Schifino is ranked No. 34 nationally by Rivals. He committed to Pitt on Dec. 29 and is the Panthers' high-rated recruit since 7-footer Steven Adams, who was selected with the 12th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder and has played the entirety of his professional career there.

Monteverde Academy was the nation's top-ranked high school team by ESPN and had a 25-0 record before the coronavirus pandemic put a halt to prep basketball across the country.

Among its former players are NBA veterans Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, D'Angelo Russell, RJ Barrett and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute.
