Pitt lands tight end from Utah

Pitt offered Trey Andersen, a tight end from Lehi, Utah, on Thursday. It didn't take him long to accept the offer.

The 6-foot-6, 250-pound Andersen announced Tuesday afternoon via Twitter that he committed to the Panthers, becoming the 18th player in the team's Class of 2021.

Andersen was a two-star tight end according to Rivals coming out of high school. Originally, he committed to Brigham Young, but did not sign, instead opting to serve a mission with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. BYU, Boise State, Texas Tech and California were in on the recruiting process.

Andersen finished his senior season with 487 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

His father, Jason Andersen, was an offensive lineman at BYU and played in the NFL for the Patriots (1998-2000) and Chiefs (2002).

Andersen's commitment helps fill a position of need for the tight end-starved Panthers. Lucas Krull, a graduate transfer from Florida, and Daniel Moraga, a junior college transfer from Ventura College, joined the team in 2020 but only are potential short-term solutions at the position.

Pitt's 2021 class is ranked 21st nationally, which is tied with Alabama and a spot behind Penn State.
