Seattle gets Kraken on unique name

Seattle's NHL franchise will be known as the Kraken.

The name was announced by franchise CEO Tod Lieweke at the site of Climate Pledge Arena, which is under construction and will be the team's home building.

Lieweke said that team officials received about 1,000 submissions from fans for what the name should be, but choosing it was the easy part. The challenge now is to build a competitive one, an issue Seattle general manager Ron Francis addressed here.

The Kraken also unveiled its home and away jerseys, which feature a navy blue and aqua color scheme with red accents:

In addition to the primary and secondary logos included above, the Kraken will be using the following wordmark:

The foundation of the club figures to come from the expansion draft that will follow the 2020-21 season. Francis has assessed the approach Vegas took to the expansion draft in 2017, and reflected on how it might affect his own.
