NBC announced on Sunday that the Penguins' qualifying round opener against the Canadiens averaged 1.572 million viewers on its network.

It was the second-most viewed game of the 2019-20 season, trailing only the Winter Classic between Nashville and Dallas that received an average of 1.96 million viewers. It was also the second-most online streamed game of the season, trailing only the Blues' regular season opener against the Capitals.

The game was the most watched game ever for a Canadian team on NBC, excluding Winter Classic games and traditional playoff games.

The game saw a 46 percent increase in viewers from the 2019-20 regular season game average on NBC of 1.074 million viewers.
