Carter: I’ll cover Pitt with passion and knowledge, and I’ll hit the ground running

As of today, I am ecstatic to announce my new position as a full-time beat writer for DK Pittsburgh Sports, covering the University of Pittsburgh's football and basketball programs.

To say I'm excited for what comes next is an understatement.

I'm hardly new here, as most of you know, and that's why Dejan Kovacevic asked me to write this announcement myself.  I joined this company almost four years ago to this day, hired as a Steelers/NFL analyst, doing some reporting and other writing and multimedia work to apply my love of breaking down football. I came to this platform from a blog and I didn't know what would be in store for me, and I'm proud of the connections I've made not just with colleagues in the industry, but also with the Lunatics who subscribe to this place.

To make this clear: This whole time, you've gotten a part-time version of what I bring to the table. That part-time designation was only in how much time I could invest, but never about passion, knowledge and effort. Now, for the first time, I'm all the way in, and you'll get it all.

You'll still see my work on the Steelers as an analyst, and you know I've got chemistry with Dale Lolley and DK to support them there.

But Pitt will come first for me. And you'll get to see what my work is like when it's aimed at my alma mater, and two programs I've followed intensely since I was a kid. As I settle into my new beat on both football and basketball, there will be some learning involved, but I hope you'll be right there with me to contribute and share your thoughts on both the Panthers and my coverage.

You've seen me argue with Dejan on Morning Java about different topics, but you've probably never seen our in-person arguments about different players in the history of the Pitt programs. Trust me, you're getting someone who feels very, very strongly on this subject.

Also, if you want to see in-depth breakdowns on what happens for the Panthers in both football and basketball, you've got it. College is a little more tricky when it comes to having film available to cut for Classroom-type pieces, but that won't slow me down.

So get ready, Lunatics, because I'm about to hit the ground running!
