A report from ESPN on Sunday indicated commissioners the Power 5 conferences are close to cancelling the 2020 NCAA football season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The web site cited unnamed sources among the officials across the Power 5 conferences that expressed a lack of confidence that a college football season would be feasible.
"It doesn't look good," one Power 5 athletic director told ESPN.
This report comes just a day after the Mid-American Conference announced it would cancel its fall football season, pushing it to early next year and sparking concern:
"Nobody wanted to be the first to do it," a Power 5 coach told ESPN, "and now nobody will want to be the last."
The report noted that sources have shared their view that postponing or cancelling the NCAA football season was "inevitable."
In recent days, a number of top players have opted out of playing in the 2020 college football season, including Pitt defensive lineman Jaylen Twyman.
