Steelers cornerback Justin Layne (31) -- MATT SUNDAY / DKPS

The Steelers on Tuesday activated cornerback Justin Layne from the reserve/COVID list. To make room on the roster for the second-year cornerback, the Steelers released defensive back Breon Borders.

Layne, a third-round pick out of Michigan State, appeared in 10 games in 2019, making three tackles on special teams.

Layne was one of four Steelers placed on the reserve/COVID list at the start of the team's training camp at Heinz Field.

Players are placed on that list if they either have a positive test for COVID-19 or have come in close contact with someone who tested positive for the virus.

With Layne's activation, the lone remaining Steelers player still on the list is third-year running back Jaylen Samuels. Wide receiver James Washington was activated from the list late last week, while defensive back Arrion Springs was released when he was cleared.
