After opening training camp on August 7, Pitt had its first cancelled practice on Thursday due to COVID-19 concerns.
Pitt athletics made this announcement after several football players displayed symptoms potentially associated with COVID-19, causing the cancelled practice.
“Our medical team decided it was in everyone’s best interest to temporarily pause our Thursday training camp activities so that we could test symptomatic players per our protocol,” Heather Lyke said. “Based on negative test results received late today, it has been determined that we can safely resume practice on Friday.”
So far, Pitt has held five practices to date, with its first practice in full pads on Wednesday.
Pitt football released a highlight video of the practice that featured freshman running back Israel Abanikanda running through contract and senior safety Damar Hamlin intercepting a pass in the end zone:

Because the MAC postponed its season, Pitt had its originally scheduled season opener against Miami Ohio postponed, making their September 19 matchup with Syracuse at Heinz Field their first game of the season.
