Steelers running back Jaylen Samuels -- MATT SUNDAY / DKPS

The final member of the Steelers who began training camp on the reserve/COVID list, running back Jaylen Samuels, was activated on Thursday.

Samuels, a third-year running back, replaced fullback Spencer Nigh on the active roster. Nigh was released.

A backup to James Conner the past two seasons, Samuels lost playing time down the stretch late last season to rookie Benny Snell.

He has has started seven games in his career, rushing for 431 yards on 122 carries with one touchdown. A better receiver than runner, has has caught 73 passes for 504 yards and four touchdowns.

The Steelers opened training camp with four players -- Samuels, wide receiver James Washington, cornerback Justin Layne and defensive back Arrion Springs -- on the reserve/COVID list.

All have now been activated, though Springs was released after his activation.
